Customer Problem
The homeowner had reversed into the closed sectional door — enough to push the bottom panels in, pop the rollers out of the vertical track on one side and shove the door up into the horizontal track, bending it. The cables had gone slack and one had come off its drum. The door was hanging skewed in the opening and couldn't be moved safely.
- Vehicle impact from inside the garage
- Rollers knocked out of the vertical track on one side
- Horizontal track bent at the curve; cables slack and off the drum
- Door skewed and jammed in the opening
Inspection & Diagnosis
The good news was that the panels — a woodgrain-finish sectional — were dented but not creased or split, and the hinges had held. That meant the door could be saved rather than re-panelled. The tracks and cable system had taken the impact: the horizontal track needed straightening, the rollers needed re-seating and both cables needed re-setting and re-tensioning before the door could be levelled.
- Panels dented but structurally sound — no replacement needed
- Hinges and roller carriers intact
- Horizontal track bent; vertical track needed re-aligning
- Cables slack, one off the drum — reset rather than replaced
Solution
With the door supported we straightened the bent horizontal track, re-aligned the vertical track, walked the rollers back into the track and re-seated the cable on its drum, then re-tensioned both cables evenly and levelled the door in the opening. The door was cycled by hand and on the opener, the limits and safety reversal re-set, and everything lubricated.
- Horizontal track straightened and vertical track re-aligned
- Rollers re-seated in the track
- Cables re-seated on the drums and re-tensioned evenly
- Door levelled, opener limits and safety reversal re-set

Frequently Asked Questions
Often it can be repaired — as here in Bennett Springs, where the panels were dented but not creased and the damage was in the tracks, rollers and cables. If a panel is folded, split or its hinge fixings have torn out, that panel is replaced; the whole door only when several panels are creased or the frame is bent beyond straightening.
